Approximate analytical formulas for Kirchhoff migration operator

چکیده

Two important tools in seismic processing––Kirchhoff migration and demigration operators––are the basis for many imaging problems solution. Due to high numerical and computational requirements, the use of those tools for three dimensions are very computation-costly. This fact has motivated us to investigate Kirchhoff migration operations for simpler types of media in order to provide faster results to be used as an approximation for more realistic media. To obtain results with lower computational effort, a convenient environment is the so called 2.5D situation, i.e., considering 3-D wave propagation in a medium that does not vary in the horizontal direction perpendicular to the seismic line. In this case, 2-D ray-tracing is sufficient to describe the 3-D propagation effects, particularly geometric-spreading. In a medium where the parameters depend only on the depth component (1-D situation), the imaging operations only require the solution of semi-analytical integrals, which can be both precisely and immediately implemented. For some particular cases of vertical velocity distributions, approximate analytical formulas are devised for migration stacking-lines and weight functions. Several imaging algorithms present very efficient computational performance by using those models. Thus, it is possible to establish a set of cases which may be useful for validating the implementation of more complex situations. 2004 Elsevier Inc. Asymptotically True-amplitude One-way Wave Equations in t: modeling, migration and inversion

Currently used one-way wave equations in depth fail at horizontal propagation. One-way wave equations in time do not have that shortcoming; they are omni-directional in space. In these equations, spatial derivatives appear in a pseudo-differential operator—the square root of the Laplacian. With an appropriate definition of this operator, we have proved via ray theory that the solutions of one-w...

A new slant on seismic imaging: Migration and integral geometry

A new approach to seismic migration formalizes the classical diffraction (or common-tangent) stack by relating it to linearized seismic inversion and the generalized Radon transform. This approach recasts migration as the problem of reconstructing the earth’s acoustic scattering potential from its integrals over isochron surfaces. The theory rests on a solution of the wave equation with the geo...

Report 1 AVO Possibilities With Least Squares Migration

Application of least-squares Kirchhoff migration (LSM) to synthetic reverse vertical seismic profile data (RVSP) demonstrates that LSM reduces the migration artifacts, improves the image resolution and produces a more accurate image than the standard migration, but cannot completely recover the model reflectivity for AVO analysis because of the limited data coverage. The influence of incomplete...

Semi-analytical solutions for vibration analysis of nonlocal piezoelectric Kirchhoff plates resting on viscoelastic foundation with arbitrary boundary conditions are derived by developing Galerkin strip distributed transfer function method. Based on the nonlocal elasticity theory for piezoelectric materials and Hamilton's principle, the governing equations of motion and boundary conditions are ...

Imaging/Inversion Formulas with Bounded Integrands

We collect recent ideas on transforming integral operators for imaging/inversion that use quotients of wave fields into operators that use products of wave fields; that is, transforming deconvolution-type operators into correlation-type operators. The transformation avoids evaluation of extremely large or extremely small numbers; hence, the designation “computer-friendly.” For this author, “inv...
